The Cloven Jaw Scourge: Blockade
This is the first quest in the series of quests know as Shan Ta Kor. After finishing the Waterworks series of quests, this quest is opened up to you. You enter this zone through the Steam Tunnels off the Marketplace. It's not a difficult zone.
You begin the quest at the Entrance (marker #1). Make your way down to the Wight Room (marker #2). The two switches in the Wight Room require a high INT to use, so once you open those two switches, the door to the east will open with a wight priest inside. There is no chest for killing him, but you will earn optional experience. After finishing that off, go to the west and loot the chest. Once you loot the chest, an ambush of kobolds will attack, but they are easy to fend off. Continue south to the Valves (marker #3).
Open each of the valves so that the water passage to the Water Ladder (marker #4) opens. Once you reach the Water Ladder, make the high climb up, head north and then east to the blockade. To the north is a shrine if you need it. Hop over the blockade and head down the tube into the Hole Room (marker #5).
Once down in the Hole Room, you will notice another one of those lovely floor panel puzzles. You need to connect the two rune across from each other on opposite walls for the center door in the floor to open. Notice the four things around the corners of the puzzles. If the "flow" of the puzzle light connect to one of these, then a spider will spawn and attack you. You do not need to kill the spiders and they are just an annoyance. In order to beat the puzzle quickly, go to each of these four things and turn any connectors beside them in such a way so that they cannot flow the energy into them, thus preventing any "oops" problems. Once that's done, simply solve the puzzle; there are several solutions. After solving the puzzle, you get to drop down the center hole again to the bottom floor with some undead zombies happy to see you.
Since the map cannot convey multiple levels, let me explain what the bottom level looks like. It is a square with something to each side of the square. The door to the north has to be picked by a rogue and has a spike and slash trap than can be disabled by a rogue. The alcove to the south holds a chest that just contains an iron key that is used on the door on the west side. The door to the east is a rest shrine. proceed through the door to the west and make your way to the Trogs (marker #6).
In here are several troglodytes that aren't hard to beat. To the south is a door to a shrine, which is the last shrine before you reach the final fight. In the middle of the room is a pool of water with stone crossbeams across it. Have one person, preferably the rogue, to jump into the pool and swim east to the switch and activate it. This switch will open the door to the west of the Trogs. Now make your way to the Shrooms (marker #7).
The Shrooms is a staircase made entirely out of enormous mushrooms. You will decent these shrooms and fight some spiders along the way while making your way to Amrog (marker #8). After killing Amrog, continue north to the final chest (just above marker #3 on the map) and the exit is directly to the west.
You do not recieve a reward for completing this section of the quest, but continue on to the second chapter, The Cloven Jaw Scourge: Caverns of Shaagh.
