The best kept secret in the MMO universe was unveiled by Turbine today when it was announced that Dungeons & Dragons Online would become "free to play", following the model of many of the Asian MMOs on the market today. The DDO community and D&D fans around the world were rocked by the news.

To help give some perspective to the announcement, WarCry editor Suzie Ford and columnist Jim Moreno had a chance to sit down with Turbine's Adam Mersky, Kate Paiz and Fernando Paiz.

The building of the best stat base becomes much more important than any sort of tactical competency. Instead of seeking a skill based work-around, games come up with new statistical probabilities.

No, it hasn't been released yet. Turbine's put together a little 'tailgate party' thread on the official forums for Dungeons and Dragons Online.

This is the place for Mod 9 related discussions, and a place to hang out while we await the arrival of Mod 9. We all know that as the old song goes "waiting is the hardest part," but it's even harder unless you can have some fun while you're at it! So we'd like to kick off the tailgate party with this thread, and other fun along the way, while we prepare for the coming of Mod 9.

Quite a bit of conversation, and some tidbits buried within the thread. When you have a good chunk of time, head over and check it out!

Turbine let us know that their games, forums, and support systems will be down for a time on Monday:

On Monday, May 4th all Turbine services will be down from 7AM - 12PM EST. During this time players will not be able to login or play our games, and forums/websites will have intermittent service.

Probably a good time to get some yard work done!
